"Eshet Chayil - Rosemary"  watercolor on paper, 22x30"

NEW PAINTING finished today...

The first of a series of six paintings I have named Eshet Chayil (Woman of Valor). This is borne out of many conversations with women friends and family, of all ages and walks of life. They are all women I respect immensely and love deeply, women who have seen joy and tragedy, blessing and want. They are all women of strength, beauty, wisdom, and love. To respect their privacy, none of the women will be identified. They have out of their graciousness, bravery, and our special friendship, agreed to pose for me. They also took part in choosing the pose that I would paint.

Eshet Chayil (Woman of Valor) is probably the highest compliment a Jewish woman can be paid (one that I am paying, in this series, to non-Jewish women as well), and comes from Proverbs 31. I have been called Eshet Chayil twice in my life, I will never forget the first time especially.... As such, one of the paintings will be a self-portrait. I couldn't ask my closest friends to take such a self-revealing step without my agreeing to the same. This series is about revelation of self, embracing beauty of all kinds, and empowerment of women in all stages and places in life. This is above all things, a labor of love....
