I know I'd said recently somewhere that I was going to go ahead with some BC coastal paintings, but once again the art leads the artist, not the other way around.... Some things just press for attention, and won't let me go....

This photo is of one of my favourite places in the world, the beach at Jaffa in Israel.  I took the picture while on a trip there in early 2013.

With everything going on overseas these days it would be disingenuous for me to tackle another subject.   I am full of worry for loved ones, and don't often feel present to where I actually am these days, and my heart aches for peace.  Maybe the painting is a way to wrap up all the worry and anxiety and prayer into a peaceful process, the painting process.  And then maybe, in some small way, however small the drop in the ocean might be, it can contribute to the larger peace process.  I've always thought that God can address many problems with one act.  Maybe the act of my painting can bring my loved ones, myself, and others I don't know, some measure of peace....

So I will start on the painting of Jaffa and start to work on a different style, something freer, something that takes more chances and helps me step outside the box.  And at the same time I will ask that all these new steps reach further than my own heart.
