Heading Down Some New Roads…

A new but not-so-new direction… getting back to my Art Journal too!

This year, so far, has been one of great transitions for me.  It’s been exciting and frustrating, great and awful.  Great because I’ve been doing new things in my art and exploring new, creative ventures that have got me super excited. Awful because sales have been down this year. But, I am still confident…

I started about a month ago with an art business coach, who is helping me tremendously. I am getting in touch and staying with who I really am at the core, as an artist and woman, and expressing her on paper, canvas, and in words.  It is really liberating to embrace her!

In April I taught an in-person weekend painting workshop in Kimberley, BC. I had twelve very enthusiastic students and it was wonderful!  We learned a lot together, and I think I was able to communicate my methods and style of painting in such a way that everyone had something they could take home with them.  From the paintings they created, I could see that we were doing something good. I liked the workshop so much I am considering doing more here in Calgary.

In May I ventured further into abstract painting.  I have done several already on paper in watercolour, but have now started working on canvas with acrylic paints. And what a joy!!  I was covered in paint by the end of it, but had what I consider a fantastic painting!  Earlier this week, I went to my art supplier and stocked up on more canvas.  Be sure to follow along and see what I am creating in this medium.

I am not abandoning watercolours in any way however!  I have recently purchased another 30x40” watercolour board and plan to turn it into another beautiful Rocky Mountain vista very soon.  Stay tuned for progress shots on that as well.

At the end of May I was privileged to be part of a group show in Calgary with three other prominent local artists.  The venue, at the Ferrari dealership, and the whole preparation for the show was fantastic, and Triple Four Marketing, who hosted the show, did an amazing job!  It was great to meet art-enthusiasts and collectors face-to-face which I don’t often get the opportunity to do.

Now I am catching up on my writing, as you can see…. Going to add this to my newsletter, and hopefully subscribers will enjoy what is here.  I know I am!  I can tell just from the number of exclamation points I’ve used in this blog that many new and exciting things are happening in my art life.  There is no doubt I am thrilled!

And I am glad most of all that you are with me on the journey!  Thank you so much….
